A widely reported UFO sighting over Auckland last night was just TVNZ’s new Breakfast desk, says the company’s CEO, Kevin Kenrick.
Panic erupted along Queen Street and spread outward from there as the object appeared to fly, from Victoria Street West, slowly across the sky towards Parnell, eventually disappearing over Mission Bay.
Aucklanders said they were spooked by the object’s bizarre white shape and pulsating orange base.
Several witnesses report it would occasionally hover silently in one place for an extended period of time, and at one point did this over the Parnell home of Prime Minister John Key, who said this morning he was “unaware of it.”
But Kevin Kenrick says that the city shouldn’t be alarmed, and that TVNZ was responsible for the mysterious craft.
“The object many of you saw last night was the new desk for our Breakfast programme, now featuring Hilary Barry and that 14-year-old we sent to America,” he wrote in a statement. “Someone failed to lock the studio doors last night, and it got out. We’ll try to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
Kenrick said the desk posed no immediate threat to members of the public, and believes it would have been looking for Peter Williams.
