Just one day after visiting the house of famous holocaust victim Anne Frank, teen pop icon Justin Bieber has said that he hopes to stage a concert at the infamous World War II death camp Auschwitz.
Bieber was reportedly moved by what he learnt about the holocaust at the home of Anne Frank, and before leaving, wrote in the guestbook that “Anne was a great girl,” and that he hoped “she would have been a Belieber.”
He said he felt privileged to bring the world’s attention to “something they’ve probably never heard of before,” and was inspired to continue spreading the word about the holocaust by making plans for a concert at the notorious Nazi concentration camp in Poland.
Bieber believes that Auschwitz, where as many as three million Jews were murdered in gas chambers and death ovens over the course of the Second World War, would make the perfect setting for a star-studded, internationally televised concert featuring all his biggest hits.
“There’s just so much history at Auschwitz, and so many stories of sadness and pain,” said Bieber in a statement announcing his plans for the concert. “It’s something that I can really relate to with songs like Nothing Like Us, which is about the struggle that I went through when I broke up with Selena [Gomez].”
Bieber said he hoped to give Auschwitz’s holocaust victims the tribute and memorial they never had, by singing songs like Boyfriend and Be Alright from his latest album, Believe.
“I know that if the victims of Auschwitz were here today, they would love my music,” said Bieber. “I hope that their spirits will hear it from the grave when I sing there.”
If Bieber’s Auschwitz concert is successful, he may consider taking it to other Nazi concentration camps, including Bergen-Belsen, where Anne Frank infamously perished. It is there that Bieber hopes to decorate her grave with shirtless posters of himself, which he believes she would have liked.
