While traveling in Shanghai with a New Zealand trade delegation, Prime Minister John Key asked to be shown the location of the well-known Shanghai fight scene from 2012 James Bond film Skyfall.
Key has been traveling in China since Friday, but was reportedly most excited to visit Shanghai, which he remembers fondly as the setting of the scene where James Bond fights an assassin and throws him down an elevator shaft.
Upon making the request early this morning, Key was escorted by Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong up a tall skyscraper that overlooked another tall skyscraper in Shanghai’s central business district.
“So this is where James Bond fought the bad guy?” asked Key.
“I don’t know” replied Xiong.
Key was said to be captivated by the building’s empty room with glass windows, and spent the majority of the day standing in various places in the room while making noises to himself.
The Prime Minister and his trade delegation have now left Shanghai, but he spoke to reporters just before getting on his plane this afternoon. He said that his visit to the city had been “pretty neat” and that he would definitely be returning in the near future.
Key is now headed to capital city Beijing, where he hopes to meet Jackie Chan.
